Park Host Program

Maple Bay Yacht Club has the pleasure of providing volunteer Park Hosts for Pirates Cove Marine Park and Wallace Island Marine Park throughout the boating season.

What does that mean?

It means that any member of the MBYC, once familiar with the duties and responsibilities,  may volunteer to act as a Park Host.

What does a park host do?

Members may use the designated moorage while acting as Park Hosts. They may moor their vessel at the Park Host Dock @ Pirates Cove, DeCourcy Island or the Park Host Slip @ Conover Cove, Wallace Island. Volunteer Park Hosts provide information and assistance to the marine park visitors. This often includes answering questions about the park itself or about the surrounding area and assisting boaters who are unsure of where to anchor and/or select a poor location in the anchorage.

Hosts also act as the eyes and ears for those agencies responsible for maintaining and protecting the park. One important responsibility of every Park Host is to fill out and maintain both the Park Host Log and the Daily Activity Sheets. This information is a very valuable resource for the annual assessments of both the marine park and the Park Host Program.

How many can host at one time?

While there can only be one official Park Host per day (for insurance purposes), other members in attendance often assist the designated Park Host as required.

The Park Host Dock in Pirates Cove is capable of handling a second vessel (weather permitting) and MBYC members wishing to assist the Park Host are usually welcome to do so.

The Park Host Slip in Conover Cove is 45’ long and is likely only long enough for one MBYC Park Host vessel. Other members wishing to use the docks in Conover Cove will be expected to pay the usual Park Fee for doing so.

How do members become Park Host volunteers?

Club members, wishing to act as volunteer Park Hosts must fill out the “Individual Volunteer Services Agreement” every year. Completion of this form is mandatory for insurance purposes if you wish to act as a park host. The form can be downloaded by CLICKING ON THIS LINK or obtained from the Club Manager. Once this is completed, return the form to the Club Manager.

Members should then read the “Park Host Manual“. Once you are familiar with the duties and responsibilities,  club members may request specific dates at either location and/or assume the duties upon attendance if no official Park Host is on duty.

Requests for specific dates and locations must be made to the Park Host Coordinator using the link below. Dates will be assigned on a “first come – first served” basis. Consecutive dates of more than 7 days will not be accepted, however, members may sign up for a second week if no other Host has been assigned. The calendar is open from May 1 until September 30th. Outside of these dates, there is no hosting but you are welcome to make use of the park host moorage.

Note that the calendar reflects the “nights” that a host will be at the dock. If you have booked to arrive on the 6th and are leaving on the 8th., the calendar will show you there on the 6th. and 7th.
