CANSail 1 & 2 ~ Opti Ages 8 – 11yrs
Provides an active start focused on fun,safe activities around the water to teach children to enjoy being in, on and around the water. This course offers a safe environment to introduce children to the sport of sailing and encourages them to become involved in daily physical activity all year round.
CANSail 1 & 2 ~ 420’s Ages 12 +
Learn fundamental skills for any type of boat. This course is designed for children 12 years and older who have either finished the Opti courses or just want to learn how to sail. CANSail 1 &2 is focused on participating, physical literacy, varied physical activities and the fundamentals of the sport.
CANSail 3 & 4 ~ 420’s & Lasers
Learn to Sail Fast! Learn to apply the fundamental skills in any type of boat. Have completed CANSail 2 or 3 (or the equivalent White Sail 3, or have some Bronze 4 or 5) and want to continue sailing. CANSail 3 & 4 is focused on advancing sailors skills up to racing standards and developing the basic skills into an advanced understanding of sailing.
Please note: this is a 2 week course running August 15-19 & August 22-26. Cost $520.00
CANSail 5 & 6 – 420’s & Lasers
Learn the skills of a competitive sailor! This course is focused on refining advanced skills in any and all conditions. Sailors learn racing tactics and techniques as well as an in-depth study of racing rules and regulations. All participants in this course are strongly encouraged to compete in the Maple Bay Yacht Club Regatta on the Labour Day long weekend. In order to register sailors must have completed CANSail 4 (or the equivalent CYA Bronze 4).

For sailors aged 8-13, Opti FUN is both a beginner sailing course for first time seafarers as well as a class that continues to challenge young sailors who are all about having fun around the Yacht Club, on and off the water. The one week course teaches the fundamentals of balance and steering, boat handling and knot tying. It also provides more opportunities for game playing,park, swimming and simply having a good time at the Yacht Club with friends. no manual required for Opti FUN.
Regatta (or race week): This week is to get you ready for the MBYC Regatta
This is an excellent way to get out on the water and learn the basics of small boat sailing. Using the Club’s 420’s and Lasers, the classes start with the basics including rigging, points of sail. sail trim. boat handling and boating safety. Students develop their skills through on-the-water sessions and “chalk talk” discussions. Classes are open to all levels and advanced sessions may be offered for more experienced sailors ready to learn racing tactics. These classes run Tuesday/Thursday 5:30-8:30pm for 2 weeks. Cost $240.00
Private Sailing Lessons
Enjoy the individual attention and customized instruction of private lessons at Maple Bay Yacht Club. Whether you’re looking to learn from scratch, refresh your basic sailing skills or learn more advanced techniques, private lessons provide the opportunity to learn what you want when you want. Juniors Sailing Rack Card
Sailing School runs from 9 AM to 3:30 PM with Pre-care starting at 8am and Post Care until 5pm for an extra fee of $10 per day. All fees include taxes.
Fees – Member and Non Members
Members are either children of MBYC members or youth who have already joined as MBYC Junior members.Students must be members to participate in sailing school and the extra $10 non-member fee covers the MBYC Junior membership for the current year.
Our Coaches are Fully Certified CANSail Coaches.
Safety is of the utmost importance. Your child must be able and willing to follow instructions in order to participate. Sailing is a water-based activity – be prepared for your child to get wet!
MBYC will be running various courses during different weeks. Every effort will be made to accommodate your child in a course of your choice subject to minimum and maximum numbers of enrollment for any given course during any given week.
An itinerary and list of supplies will be mailed out one week prior to your course.
Must have: Life jacket and/or PVD. Make sure the device is Canadian approved. Find an appropriately sized device and have them try it on. It should fit snugly, not ride up over your child’s chin or ears. If there are more than 7.6 cm (3”) between your child’s shoulders and the device it is too big and could do more harm than good.
Note: Students who already possess some level of experience but no previous CYA certification have the option of challenging the CYA levels on the first day of class. If you would like to challenge a higher level, you must state your intention on registration and ensure that your desired level is offered at that time. Assessment will be completed on the first day of class.

Payment can be made either at the club or by phone Monday – Friday, 10am to 3pm. Registration for courses closes on the Friday of the preceding week at 3pm. We accept debit card, credit card or cheque.
